One of the best parts of river cruising is how effortless it is to experience multiple destinations in comfort and style. I got to experience this first hand.

I set sail on a Scenic Luxury River Cruises and invited readers to follow along virtually as I journeyed from Amsterdam through some of Europe’s most beautiful destinations, sharing highlights, onboard experiences and travel tips along the way.  The itinerary took me from Amsterdam to Dordrecht, Bruinisse, Antwerp and Arnhem before returing to Amsterdam, and each stop offered something memorable.  Throughout the cruise, I shared insights into the accommodations, excursions, and the many thoughful details that made the experience so seemless.

As the journey unfolded, I quickly appreciated just how relaxing river cruising could be.  Nearly every detail was anticipated – my dietary preferences were discussed and easily accommodated, and in almost every port I was able to step right off the ship and explore, either independently or on one of the daily excursions.  With an average of just 141 guests onboard, the ship never felt crowded.  Instead, I felt genuinely seen and cared for by an exceptionally attentive and friendly crew who treated every guests like a VIP.

Evenings aboard were especially memorable.  I could choose to dine at a lively table for six, swapping stories with new friends while a waiter – who remembered my name and favorite wine – described the chef’s daily special, or opt for an intimate table for two.  The choice was always mine.  At night. luxuries abounded:  a butler-delivered pot of hot chocolate before bed, a nightcap from the restocked minibar or time spent unwinding in the salt room after a full day of sightseeing.  Each evening, I watched the Scenic Wonder update on the TV, outlining the next day’s plans – including the remarkably simple, stress-free disembarkation process where my luggage was taken care of entirely, right through to my airport transfer.

Some of the most cherished moments were spent on the Scenic Sun Lounge, quietly taking in life along the river, the quaint villages with classic architecture, animnals grazing in riverside fields, small ferries waiting to cross, and people walking or cycling along the banks, often stopping to wave as we passed.

After the cruise, I spent a few days on my own in another city, and the contrast was striking.  Suddenly, I was responsible for everything:  navigating trains, tubes and buses, hauling my own luggage, booking theatre tickets, managing accommodations, and sorting out meals.  I even found myself missing the nightly turndown service.  While I enjoy independent travel, the experience highlighted just how much there is to appreciate when everything is so thoughtfully and expertly arranged.  River cruising offered the perfect balance – curated excursions to the region’s best sights paired with free time, all while my floating boutique hotel sailed effortlessly alongside me.

It truly didn’t get much better than this.  Scenic River Cruising proved to be an excellent choice for couples, solo travelers and friends alike – anyone who values comfort, convenience and a relaxed pace while exploring Europe’s (and Asia’s) iconic rivers.  Instead of skimming coastlines, you sail directly into the heart of timeless cities and charming towns.   If you haven’t had an opportunity to read my daily recap of my river cruise journey or view the many photos, I invite you to do so.

If this experience has captured your attention, I’m glad.  My cruise was genuinely incredible, and I’d love to help you plan one of your own.  Let’s chat soon.
